This place was awesome for lunch. Gary provided excellent service, was attentive, and paid attention to detail. The food was excellent and Gary was very personable. I would totally come back

Went there for my birthday and had a great meal the waiter was incoherent and couldn't mana gage to multitask between tables. One of my friends was a chef that got hired at Olive Garden just to find out that they don't cook any of there food everything is frozen so it's either microwaved or stuck in the over. Such a disappointment when people want to eat REAL hand made food not frozen dinners.

What can I say...it was Olive Garden. I am NOT the type to frequent corporate, chain restaurants but it was my big bros birthday and therefor it was his choice. The boy had the Chicken Alfredo and rated it a 4. Mom and I shared the Trio, which was Fettuccini Alfredo, Chicken Parm, and Lasagna. I would rate the Chicken Parm and the Alfredo a 4 but I didn't care for the Lasagna so much. Too much ricotta for me... I would give it a 3. Our service, however, was wonderful! I should edit that to say our SERVER was wonderful. He did forget a couple of things, messed up our separate checks, and wasn't really into refilling our drinks but he did sing Happy Birthday to my big bro in FRENCH and with much enthusiasm and gusto! That was fun. He was funny and he put up with us when we asked him to take a family pic of us...several, actually. An overall enjoyable experience!

Had some concerns and the manager or owner contacted me personally. Very friendly and went above and beyond to fix a problem we had.

I thought my food was terrific. Our waitress was nice. Good atomsphere. Love the all your can eat bread sticks and appreciate the yummy mints at the end.

Because they are located downtown, the hosts think they can treat people like they are a 4 star restaurant. They are selective by appearance. If they begin to seat people before you with the same# of people, confront them. Immediately ask for manager.

I went in in a rush and was starving I only had about 10 minutes to grab something... The staff was super helpful and got me some minestrone soup right away. The soup was hot and delicious and also came with warm bread sticks, Parmesan cheese, and even chocolate mints.

My boyfriend and I had a casual, on-a-whim dinner at Olive Garden this weekend. It was awesome as the food came out lightning fast! Our server was great, too (wish I got his name). It's proximity downtown is right across from the Salt Palace and various venues like Capitol Theater. It's good to know that in this area, parking is free on the weekends. Otherwise you may opt for a closeby parking garage. Other than that, what can I say? The food was good! He ordered the pasta with Scallops and Shrimp. I ordered the Chicken Fetuccine Alfredo and that's that. Great, prompt service. Has the Olive Garden ever been bad? Nah! So if you're looking for something more familiar, this is a good choice not necessarily for culinary innovation, but more because you know what to expect - nice people, filling food, and obviously some bomb salad and breadsticks. Simple.

What can I say, it's Olive Garden. Pretty consistent all around. Service was good. It's a good thing I came in during off peak lunch hour. I forgot the name of the order I put in but it was a medley of the lasagna, chicken parmesan, and fettuccine alfredo. I could feel my gut bursting.

The staff was very amiable and our waitress was friendly and prompt. I cannot have dairy, so I asked which of a few sauces had dairy and was told the primavera and spicy three meat did not. When the primavera arrived, there was quite a bit of cheese in the sauce, so I had to send that back. Our waitress apologized profusely and said she had never noticed the cheese before. Instead, she brought the spicy three meat. I took a few bites and the sauce had almost a rancid flavor. Additionally, it also displayed tiny strings of melted cheese. I searched online for Olive Garden's allergen menu and saw that it contained dairy. Another dish sent back. About 45 minutes had gone by since we had initially arrived, so I just requested my pasta with the only non-dairy sauce according the allergen menu to be boxed. Our waitress once again apologized and said that neither she nor the cooks knew that sauce had dairy. I have known for a while that most of Olive Garden's food is frozen, but I didn't realize how unaware of allergens the staff was. I am giving Olive Garden one star because, in the end, I didn't need to pay for my meal and our waitress was accommodating.

Love this location and always go there to meet friends for lunch. Prices are fair and food is served quickly. However, they no longer validate parking due to cost. Parking for my friend and I was $6 each! :( Don't park in the underground parking if possible, it's a complete ripoff.

Came here after work hours on a Wednesday night and had a good experience with friendly and fast service. There was no wait at all. We ordered a pitcher of the berry sangria which was my favorite part of our whole meal :), delish!!..other than that, you can't go wrong with their endless soup ,salad, and breadsticks- the zupa tuscana soup is the best.

Food was great. Service was alright. The waiter was new so his service wasn't that great. We had to kept asking him to refill the soup and salad and breadsticks but eventually he forgot so we gave up. Food was great like usual though

  • Chris H.

Food is always pretty good. But I always order soup and salad and a glass of water., since that's a small check for a waiter they usually treat me as if the tip will be small. I've never seen great service at this location

I don't eat here very often but every time I do, it seems like the portions have shrunk. I ordered the stuffed mushrooms & this is exactly what I got from the kitchen, great presentation & portion size right? Don't think I'll be returning. Next thing you know Olive Garden will be featuring new French cuisine portion size.

As a first timer to OG, I have to say, the unlimited soup is truly the best. Please keep in mind, this is not a $$$$$ restaurant and thus I am not reviewing it as one. The Toscana Zuppa was my favorite - I noticed the kale, spicy sausage, and potatoes listed in the ingredients, all of which are things that I enjoy. What can I say, you never forget your first (OG soup). I got the vegetable and chicken lasagna, which was equally delightable- for a poor graduate student eating sandwiches day in and day out, lasagna is like the holy grail of Italian style food. What made my first OG experience great was our waitress Victoria, she was really sweet, and a champ for carrying all those plates that she did. Suggestions to OG: please find smaller, lighter plates. That heavy ceramic serve-ware is just worker's comp waiting to happen.

Typical Olive Garden. I did however order my food online which was way user friendly!

  • Kris B.

The only good thing about this Olive Garden is its close proximity to the Salt Palace convention center. But eating here is only slightly better than a pre-packaged sandwich and a bag of chips. If you owned a restaurant across the street from a convention center, and there was a convention in town, wouldn't you increase the staff scheduled during the lunch hour? Just a thought.... Service was slow to non-existent, waiting to order, waiting for drinks, waiting for food, waiting for refills, waiting for the bill. There was no offer for more breadsticks or salad, we had to ask. The entrees were adequate but not satisfying.

I had to see for myself if Olive Garden/Red Lobster are showing declining earnings because they are stuck in the middle between inexpensive/no tip service and high end as the stock analysts suggest. I have come to the conclusion that big business is full of complete idiots with no creative skills whatsoever. Firstly, the food is gawdawful! Secondly, the service is appalling-it is rushed and they seem to have problems like figuring out an app is served first. Thirdly, it ain't cheap for some really bad pasta ANYONE could make better at home. I don't mean to be hatin', but save yourself the money and morbid curiousity-this place needs to go away-like so many other big corps. They should stick to money and stop believing that they all invincible and gods at all they touch. Lesson two, if you are fool enough to be invested in a 401K-go shop/eat at the places you are invested in and use some common sense.

Very poor service. We went 25 minutes before closing time and we had called earlier that day for a reservation and still the guy manager was not happy about our arrival, also they were very weird acting cooks, waiters and management cause our transgender friends showed up with us. Food was ok, service. ..not at all.

If you like boring Italian food with far too long of a wait to get seated? You should definitely come to the Olive Garden! The only reason I ever dine here anymore is when someone gives me a gift card. I will give them the extra star this time because the service was really good this trip. I think the only saving grace to this place is the soup. They have a couple to choose from and they are all good. So come for the lunch and get the unlimited soup, salad and bread sticks for $6.99.

I travel a lot. And I've come to expect a certain level of professionalism from name brand rest. Ie Olive Garden brand. As soon as I walked in. I could tell something was off here. There was a staff member that was clearly ill walking in front of clients and came from the kitchen. And, when I went to the bar to grab a drink before picking up my food, I noticed the bar hasn't been cleaned and looked extremely gross. So, I canceled my order an left feeling good about my decision. Btw- if ur close enough to go to this rest. Then you can walk another block to Bambara. Good staff and excellent food.

I'm a fan of Olive Garden. Personally, I love their food....and well, maybe I'm making this review a bit personal, because the food was just as good as I'd remembered and the place was clean, but really, the waitress just ruined it for me. We were there around 11:45am Fri Dec 27th. I showed up with two girl friends of mine and one of them brought her two year old daughter. So we sit down and we are chatting and looking over the menu, but I haven't seen one of these girls in over ten years so we were talking and I was having difficulty concentrating on figuring out what to order. The waitress came after only giving us idk... 5 min to look at the menu which I suppose is decent but the fact is when she asked if we are ready, I mentioned that I wasn't, and she said she would take my two friends orders and I should know what I want by the time she is done with them. Ummmmmmm ..................... Ok? So I ended up just picking something safe since I was basically pressured into ordering before I was ready. It was freaking barely even twelve noon, the place was not busy. No need to rush anyone. It wasn't just that though. I felt rushed through the entire meal. Gosh I wish I could remember now all that she did that caused me to feel that way but I do remember that one of my friends was eating a salad and she hadn't finished, but they took her plate away before she could finish it. She was pretty disappointed as she was planning on eating more of it. Oh I think also they brought out our entrees before we even had time to finish the appetizer and the appetizer was being split between four people...so yeah. To give her credit for something, she did bring out the toddlers plate first so she wouldn't die of hunger while we waited for our food, and she brought out basically an endless supply of grapes for her since she was devouring them. Anyway, whoever my server was, I wish she would see that she made us feel like she was pushing us out the door from the moment we sat down, that irritated the crap out of me.

Everyone has been to Olive Garden but I had to review about this particular location. I don't know why but we seem to get the food served cold? I like my pasta warm. Also they forgot to add the shrimp when requested. The service is so slow. To get water takes forever. I would recommend going to a local in takin restaurant!

The food was good, but not the service. We had a waiter and waitress for our group of nine. Our food and drink orders were correct, but NOT ONCE during our two hour dinner did they refill any drinks. They were extremely slow--almost as if each thought the other was helping us. Very disappointing.

Had lunch when driving through. The waitress was wonderful! Very attentive and brought us lots of salad and soup and breadsticks without us asking. (I have not experienced this at other olive gardens). The food was very good, I can't complain about anything! My kids love Olive Garden and there isn't one where we live. We were very pleased with our experience here and will not hesitate to return if we are in the area again. They also validated our parking!

It took nearly twelve years of living in Utah before I stepped foot inside one of these places. And just recently, not by my own design I might add, I had the joy of experiencing an Olive Garden in the person. Look, I tried to be open minded. The fact our waiter had the personality and charm of a member of the borg collective, that's fine, the guys just earning a living, he might hate working for chainville USA. The general aroma of a school cafeteria, ok yeah whatever, I can pretend its not there. The use of salt as the singular tool to impart flavor to any dish from my (curiously textured) steak and chicken through to the SALAD, ooooooook, pushing things now. The kicker though, that really pushed me over the edge. We ordered dessert. They were out. Fine no worries, we will skip dessert and we make our plans to leave. Our waiter returns minutes later with a dessert he managed to muster up, ok, er sure, I guess we still want it? However when it appeared on the bill at full price, wow, you lost me, good and proper. Once every 12 years will probably be my dining frequency here.

I love OG normally but this one was terrible!! Waited 45 mins to be seated, even after looking around there were plenty of spaces open! After being seated we waited another hour just to give our order and On top of that they would forget about us.... All in all terrible prepared food, and customer service!

Caught dinner before our show and was left very disappointed. Salad was prepped so far ahead that lettuce was wilted and croutons were soggy. Ordered the chicken & shrimp carbonara which was not seasoned properly (very bland with no bacon) and the chicken was not butchered/cleaned appropriate. Server was good enough to swap out meal for the the chicken alfredo with the chicken still suffering from similar problems but at least the alfredo was seasoned correctly. Not expecting much from a chain restaurant but if they can't nail consistently and quality then it's really not worth it. Seems like this Olive Garden is banking on location (business travelers and theater district) rather then putting out good product. I'm avoiding this location in the future. Giving two stars for the service - our server was the only shining star of a rather disappointing night.

I like the OG. Cauz im an OG and OG's like OG thangs. yyaddamean? anyways. I think the best healthy deal you can get is the soup, salad, and bread sticks. I mean, its cheap (6.95) and you get filled with good tasty food. If you go to this Olive Garden, you can park in the garage, and get a 2 hour parking validation. puuuurty sweet if you ask me.

I had the best experience here! The salad is fresh and the bread is delicious. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable.

I used to be OG's number one fan. And was a huge fan of this particular location, despite the horrible parking garage. I've always loved their creamy pastas, the delicious salad, and fantastic breadsticks. It was worth it to fast for an entire 48 hours just to visit the Garden and gorge myself. But something changed. Maybe it was me, maybe it was them. But my last visit was disappointing. I tried their chicken parmesan, and the chicken tasted like a frozen cutlet I could get from my grocery freezer. The breadsticks were dry. I got heartburn. And I was disappointed to the point of tears. Why OG? Why have you failed me? I knew I could rely on you for a good meal at a great price, but now, I'm not sure. And I don't know if I'll give you another chance. I'm sad. I feel like I've lost an old friend.

I love Olive Garden . . . . . . having said that I have had 3 meals at this particular location with friends, and each has been a terrible experience. 2 out of the 3 times, the food took forever to get out, the service was terrible. Food is good, just takes forever! My wife won't let me go back here anymore because I get so agitated waiting forever to get refills, food, salad, basic service. Sad, the Olive Garden is so good . . . . this location . . . . . TERRIBLE.

Food was of the typical I've garden experience. When our group of 6 arrived we were meet at the front by a grumpy guy who was kinda rude about too many big groups showing up together. You think they would be use to that being so close to the conference center. Messed up one of our food plates, took 15min to fix it. They did comp the dish for that person, but it made us late for the next break out session for our conference.

We don't have Olive Garden in Honolulu so my wife had never been there until we visited SLC. Let's just say for a chain restaurant this is the bomb. The bread sticks and salad are fantastic, they even brought my son extra black olives when he asked the server. We gorged ourselves so much on the salad and the bread sticks that we just got the entrees to go. The entrees are good, yet one needs to remember that this is Americanized Italian cuisine and not anywhere as authentic as you might think. The service was good although it was quite busy. This location is super crowded given that it's downtown near most everything of importance in SLC. Not sure where to park 'cause we walked, it was next door to our hotel, OK close to our hotel.

Ok, so now I have a baby my husband and I don't get out much, so when a dear friend offer to tend our little one and gave us a gift card to Olive Garden we didn't turn down the offer. Given that that last time I went to the Olive Garden was in the 90's for their infamous salad, soup, & breadsticks, and it is a chain, my expectations were low. Service, superb! Even though it is a chain I feel the server, Sam, went out of his way to make us feel like we were at a real restaurant. The bread sticks they start with are gosh awful, but with all the carbs you are about to consume do you really need to waste space, just consider them not there, and your experience will be happier. The entrees are a bit pricey I think for a chain, but for two people you can order one appetizer and one entree and be quite content. Chicken flatbread and steak were pretty decent, italian soda, skip it. I might go back for the $12.95 special. For a $35 meal, it wasn't bad, it wasn't the most amazing but I would happily return.

Upon walking into Olive Garden a few weeks ago my husband said to me, "We speak of this to no-one." Well, I guess the cat's outta the bag. We went to Olive Garden intentionally. Maybe it was that we were incredibly tired and right next to it at the time, or maybe because the idea of never ending salad appealed to me on a base level, but there we were ... the Mothership of crappy suburban chains. If all I ate was the salad and breadsticks, I'd rate them higher because Iove junky breadsticks and salad as much as any other red-blooded American, but unfortunately I ordered other things too. I got some sort of steak with asparagus, my husband got some sort of stuffed pasta. Now, when asparagus is in season.... how did OG even FIND such bad asparagus? I have no idea. Then they covered them with so much salt and bad garlic that it burned to eat. Anyway, their approach to cooking appears to be: 1) Put so much garlic salt on EVERYTHING that you can't taste the bad ingredients. 3) Fill people up with cheap wine so they don't care about #1. I will say that our service was excellent, but I think they punish bad servers by making them eat there so that is unsurprising. So, yeah, that's that I guess.

Yeah I went 4 stars, but let me explain. OG is a classic and how can you beat the unlimited breadsticks and salad??? The soup and salad is a perfect lunch and I love the zips Toscana when it's fresh and has extra kick to it. The tour of Italy hits all the major italian food groups and is more than anyone should eat at one time. OG is always a safe bet for good basic food and convo

There was a dead fly in my pizza. When I brought it to the waiter's attention, he responded by saying, "Oh, did it gross you out?" Hmmm... yes. Most definitely. Then he asked if I still wanted the rest of the pizza, just not the slice with the fly on it. "No" I said. "I've definitely lost my appetite." No appology from the waiter. Then the manager came out and explained that things like that happen, but that they would comp my meal -- as they should. Because I'd had about two bites before losing my appetite. Then the bill came. They took the pizza off (I'd only ordered water other than that), but still were charging me for gratuity. I figured it must be a mistake. The waiter went to investigate, and later brought it back saying -- yes, I would be charged gratuity for the meal I didn't eat. After taking a photo of the bill (for reference while writing reviews like this) the manager came over and angrily crumpled up my check for $2 and said "Don't worry about it." Like he was doing me some big favor for not charging me for something I shouldn't have to pay for. In short -- food might be just fine (well, except for the dead fly part). But the service was mind blowingly bad. I have a long fuse and there were so many opportunities for them to "make it up the customer." All were either blown or were severely undermined by later actions or comments. My suggestion -- go to Toaster's or J. Wong's for lunch if you're in that area. Both are located less than half a block from the Olive Garden, cost the same (or even less) and I've always had fantastic food and most importantly fantastic SERVICE at both.

While it is a chain, Olive Garden is one of better Italian food options in Salt Lake City. I have ate at this location several times and the service has always been good. Of the complimentary sides, the garlic breadsticks is good and addictive. Though sister chain Red Lobster's biscuits are even better. When choosing between the soup, I found the Zuppa Toscana to be my favorite option. Though the house salad is not bad either. As for entrees, I strictly stick with the pastas. The eggplant parmigana is a good bet. I found the manicotti to be decent although the portion somewhat small. There are other available options for Italian with a Macaroni Grill just down the street and several other more authentic Italian eateries around. But when it comes down to expecting a good Italian meal, I choose Olive Garden.

The only thing worse then the food is the service. It all left a bad taste in my mouth!

Olive garden earned a bad reputation for the food quality and poor service in the 80's and 90's. To make matters worse many of the locations had really bad interiors that were poorly lit. Since then they have worked to improve, at least in the SLC area. This location is nice inside and serves good food. The house salad is tasty and so are the bread sticks. This location also caters to a large lunch crowd so if you are on your lunch break they will know to get you out in about an hour. The prices are reasonable, the portions are generous, and the service is good. The deserts are pretty good as well. Good value.

I like Olive Garden, not love, but like. There have been some experiences at other locations that I was not a fan of. However, I was blown away here. The food was pretty standard, but at the price of $6.95, the soups, salads, and breadsticks was worth it. We also had a sampler that contained stuffed mushrooms, calamari, and toasted ravioli. I didn't care much for the breadsticks, they were a bit salty and not very warm. However, the soups were delicious. The main selling point for me was the customer service. I was in town for a conference, and the nearest restaurant to the hotel was this one, so the place was packed and busy all day. All of the employees were nice and attentive. Our server, Sam, was amazing. Our drinks were filled promptly, food came out in good time, and we had a good time cracking jokes and conversing with the staff. I loved that once we left, everyone had smiles and told us, "Thank you." I had a great experience and he was well worth the big tip!

I finally ate at the Olive Garden for the first time. This place is pretty good and reasonably priced. I know a lot of people say the Olive Garden is totally not classy, but I think those people were probably just born in a hate factory. You know, that place that only manufactures hate. Anyway, I live Oakland so I know all about keeping it classy. JK, but LOL @ the lady who is also from Oakland who said she thought she was walking into a 5 star restaurant.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
